dia 4
On Wednesday, I had my first day of school. I woke up early, like any first day of school. Mabel called her favorite taxi driver to take me to school. Actually, he took me to the girls´ orientation. The girls are doing great. They weren´t even that excited to see me, so I took that as a very good sign. Nobody cried, everybody was able to articulate postives and negatives from over the weekend, and two of them already decided that they had to go shopping because they didn´t bring the right shoes or jacket. I must confess, I am buying a new jacket tomorrow too. I feel too casual in my fleece and shell all the time.... the darn Argentines are just way too sophisticated. So anyway - after Ximena and I checked in with the girls, I went off to my orientation, which consisted of getting to know San Juan - walking around with a map, figuring out the street and numbering system, etc. The people in charge of the language institute are great. After my orientation, I went to Alejandra and Chique´s house for lunch. It was a huge lunch, followed by a doze on the couch before I headed off to my language classes. I think I learned a lot this afternoon. We had a classroom session for two hours, and then we had a lesson on ordering in a restaurant. After that, we had a ´lab.´ My classmate and I, yes, I´m in a class of two.... trooped off with our teacher to a café to order a late afternoon snack. I got a ´carlito´ which is a really thin sandwich with cheese and a mild ham. TASTY. Part of the lesson was to order something you had never had before, figure out the money, use proper grammar, etc.
