Today was finally what I would call normal. Mabel and I have adjusted to each other and we are able to interact like we both live here with conversations like, where are you going, what time will you be home, where shall I meet you, etc. And I have finally started to trust myself that I actually understand Mabel on the other end of the cell phone. Or if I can´t, no one can. It was reassuring to have my friend Xime hold the phone out away from her ear when Mabel was on the other end yelling into it what her plans were, where I was supposed to go, etc. Xime made her stop and start over. That made me feel better.... So anyway, I went to the center of town to exchange some currency and buy some phone cards today. After I finished my chores I went to sit in a café to drink coffee and read the paper. I have discovered a part of town that has the court and lawyers offices. There are a lot of cafés there. I guess that tells you how much work the lawyers get done.... A few of the cousins and Mabel and I went to what I would almost call a food court for lunch. But this was way fancier than any food court I´ve ever seen. This restaurant has a lunch special every day, and for the equivalent of just under $4, we got beef, potatoes, a bit of salad, a soda, and dessert! And it wasn´t bad! It wasn´t as good as the food that the cook makes at the cousins´ house, but not bad! After lunch I trundled off to my spanish class. Today we were dealing with the preterito and the infinitivo. I am the queen of any past tense compared to ser y estar. So it was a good day. Plus we got to listen to a little tango music and our lab for the day was to visit the grocery store. All in all, pretty good. I came home and heated up a few leftover empanadas while Mabel is off at her salsa class. The photo above is the dam that provides the electicity for the area. It´s what we walked past last week during the wind storm....
