Yesterday I ventured down to the Lower East Side with a group of girls with the goal of walking across the Williamsburg Bridge (and back) and then eating at a great sandwich shop. We fulfilled all goals and the walk was absolutely beautiful. The Williamsburg Bridge is pretty neat because it carries pedestrians, bikers, cars and trains all at the same time - see photo. The view of the East River was great and the girls could see the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges (other bridges they've walked over this week). If I'm ever in that neighborhood around lunch time, I could definitely be convinced to visit Tiny's Giant Sandwich Shop for nourishment.
