Bob met me after work on Friday and we headed to the Guggenheim. We were making a special trip to see the exhibit by artist Cai Guo-Qiang. Please go to this link to see the installation of one of the "works." http://www.guggenheim.org/exhibitions/exhibition_pages/cai.html The reason why we were so excited to go was because we had seen part of this show a few years ago at Mass MoCA in North Adams, easily my favorite museum. We've had one other experience of seeing the same show hung by two different museums (and therefore, two different curators). We first saw The Quilts of Gee's Bend at the Whitney and then later we saw the same show at the Cleveland Museum of Art. It was so interesting and we've been debating ever since why we did or didn't like the show in each venue. We feel really privileged to be able to see another show "twice."
We had to counterbalance our smug art experience by going for bbq afterwards and consuming large glasses of bourbon.
